Synopsis
The last human in the world searches for a sign that she is not alone in this existence while struggling to ease her thirst, her hunger, and most of all, her loneliness.
Artist Statement
Helena enjoys delving into themes like loneliness and isolation as a way to narrate and explore her own personal experiences. She also thought to push her technical and storytelling skills by exploring more subtle acting, slower pacing, and emphasizing environmental ambiance. Her desire to create this type of narrative comes from her discovery of old-school anime throughout last summer, and “Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind” and “Ghost in the Shell” heavily influenced her creative process. Helena hopes to achieve a film that makes the audience feel the main character’s experiences, and immerse them in this lonely world.

Helena Escauriaga is a Filipino-Canadian 2D animator, born and raised in Vancouver, BC. Often found reading comic books and playing video games not based in reality, she is influenced by the heroic, the adventurous, and the fantastical. Helena enjoys exploring the world as a traveller and exploring the worlds she will create as an artist. Her style transforms along with her subject matter, ranging from humorous cartoons, to stylized experimentation. She has recently acquired her Bachelor in Media Arts, with a Major in 2D + Experimental Animation and plans to continue learning and growing in the realm of TV and Film Animation.
