Film Synopsis:Sylvie is looking for a piece of herself. Set in the forests of the Kootenays, she searches through the winter dusk, getting pulled into other worlds of memory. When she finally meets another piece of her, they share a moment of reconciliation, and Sylvie recognizes they were not so disconnected after all. She leaves the encounter more at peace with herself, ready to continue her journey.
Artist's Statement:I’d say the past lingers in more ways than one - a haunting of sounds, images, and experiences live within us, and around us, all at once. We walk through a world steeped in lifetimes, and they leave traces; If we look and listen, they can be felt. My goal as an artist is to find what lingers, and show it to others in new forms.
While my art tends to take on whatever medium I feel most curious about at a given moment, music and film have been with me the longest. As both mediums are time-based, exploring theories and concepts of time plays a large part in my practice. I enjoy finding ways we might think about and work with time differently, especially as it relates to memory.
It’s with these tools I explore the hauntings: the ways we recall memory, and how the past stays with us, guiding us forward.
