Synopsis
A young creature is surviving in a desolate wasteland, and is transformed by the arrival of food. She begins to thrive, but is unsatisfied with the limits of what is offered.
Artist Statement
This project was inspired by a news report, and made me want to take on a theme that discussed the relationship between giving and taking. It was a complicated question that perplexed me, so I decided to figure it out through this creative work. I hope that it can become an allegorical story with some funny performance and an ironic twist, bringing the audience both laughter and thoughtfulness.

Ruby Shao was born in China, a country with a long cultural history. In 2012, she moved to Calgary, Alberta for high school, and then to Vancouver BC to study Animation at Emily Carr University of Art+ Design. She chose to focus on 2D animation because of her childhood influences, and has also learned the basics of 3D. She wishes to work for children’s TV animation after she graduates.
